Ultrasound
Ultrasound is used to check on the progress of your pregnancy, or to look for problems that may occur. It can be a useful tool, especially when used with other tests and exams.
First trimester ultrasound:
First trimester ultrasound is used to confirm an early pregnancy. Especially in the presence of first trimester bleeding, ultrasound is used to confirm the location of the pregnancy and rule out ectopic (tubal) pregnancies. First trimester ultrasound is also useful to determine the correct due date for patients with uncertain last menstrual periods.
First trimester screening:
First trimester screening is an evaluation that combines maternal blood screening tests with an ultrasound exam to identify risk for chromosomal abnormalities including Down’s Syndrome, Trisomy-21, and Trisomy-18. The test can also help identify risk for other significant fetal abnormalities, including cardiac disorders.
Second trimester ultrasound/Anomaly screen:
A second trimester ultrasound can provide important information about the health of the fetus including the presence of fetal malformation, size of the fetus, location of the placenta, fetal position, and amount of amniotic fluid.
Third trimester ultrasound:
Your doctor may want to perform a third trimester ultrasound to check on the well-being of your baby. Third trimester ultrasound is used to confirm the location of the placenta, observe fetal movement and breathing, and determine the position of the fetus.
3D / 4D ultrasound:
3D / 4D ultrasound creates a lifelike look at the face and movements of your baby before birth.
